An over privileged self-absorbed family hits a crisis in this dark comedy about old grudges and stifled hopes brought to light during a "happy hour" prolonged by a newly hired cook's inability to make a roast. John, an emerging playwright, has come home to ask his father's permission to produce his latest play, which is based on his family - warts and all. John's father, Bradley, a businessman, is horrified. His sweet mother, Ann, is too. And his sister, Nina, is frustrated over her "supporting" rather than primary role. In this cocktail hour, people unravel as well as unwind.
