Tipping Point Theatre Closes Their 11th Season with an Unforgettable Romantic Comedy

Northville, MI – Tipping Point Theatre rounds out their 11th Season with Y York’s The Impossibility of Now, a new romantic comedy. The story revolves around Carl and Miranda, a married couple at the end of their relationship. But after Carl takes a hit to the head, his amnesia leaves him with a clean slate and a desire to connect to his wife. With two people who were barely communicating before, this random accident may be what brings them closer than ever. The show’s dramatic storyline of forgetting a lifetime of memories is balanced by Carl’s childlike excitement and bemusement of rediscovering the pleasures of simple, everyday experiences. Y York’s dialogue creates truthful comedy as her characters combat secrets with blunt responses and forgotten love with stubbornness.

The world premiere of The Impossibility of Now showed in March of this year at Thalia’s Umbrella in Seattle, WA with warm reception from critics. "[W]ith York's rich dialog and characters and the fantastic cast this sweet little romantic comedy is a delight,” Seattle local Jay Irwin wrote for Broadway World. Miryam Gordon of a theatre blog titled Miryam’s Theatre Musings wrote, “Y York’s The Impossibility of Now is an unexpected delight, a delicious and magical moment.” Positive reviews from the world premiere coupled with the excitement of producing the Michigan Premiere, this intimate and creative script is sure to be a perfect match for the Tipping Point stage and audience.

Director Frannie Shepherd-Bates returns to Tipping Point for the second time, having directed Young Americans just last year. Joining her will be Bridgette Jordan as Assistant Director who was awarded the mentorship under Shepherd-Bates through her participation in BoxFest Detroit last year. BoxFest Detroit is an annual festival that gives female-identifying directors the opportunity to grow and work with local theatre professionals. More information about this festival can be found at www.BoxFestDetroit.com.

As a non-profit professional theatre, Tipping Point creates over 90 jobs for Michigan artists each year, and receives support from patrons, donors, businesses and other organizations.  They recently received grant funding from the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs and The Shubert Foundation as well as corporate sponsorship from Masco Corporation and Metro Cars.
