The Cocktail Hour

Written by A.R. Gurney
March 24 through April 30, 2011

The old grudges and stifled hopes of a typical well-to-do and publicly admired American family come to light in this dark comedy that exposes the realities of relatives. John, an emerging playwright, has come home to ask his father’s permission to produce his latest play, which is based on his real family – warts and all. The crisis that ensues highlights the sometimes quirky and often truthful ways family members see themselves and each other. In this cocktail hour, which is prolonged by a newly hired cook’s inability to make a roast, people unravel as well as unwind.
