Tipping Point Theatre Technical Director Job Description

The Technical Director is responsible for all technical operations of the theatre including overseeing lighting, sound, set design; and or constructing and implementing designs; and coordinating necessary maintenance of the physical building. High attention to detail and the ability to work independently is essential. The Technical Director must be able to handle a wide range of technical issues and have a working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures. The Technical Director reports to the Producing Artistic Director.

As a member of the Tipping Point Staff there is an expectation to participate and help in special events that aid in Tipping Point Theatre’s general health.  These events are often of a fundraising nature, but may include volunteer tasks connected with a large group goal such as large theatre upkeep projects.  A Special Event or Task is identified when all TPT Staff members are called upon to go “above and beyond” for the betterment of organization.  The level of expected participation is variably proportionate to the employment contract with Tipping Point.

Season-long Apprenticeship

Tipping Point Theatre is now accepting resumes for a one year Apprenticeship program beginning in April/May/June 2015. Applicants must have a college degree or be seeking a degree in theatre or related field.

As an Apprentice you will be fully immersed in the theatre’s management, artistic, and marketing teams; while having a direct influence on the development of a professional theatre company. This is a fantastic learning opportunity for young professionals to network and work with established local artists on various projects throughout your time with Tipping Point. This program will provide invaluable contacts while developing your resume. Because of the integral role Apprentices play within the organization, apprenticeships are tailored to individual strengths and interests with an emphasis on investing in the future of the apprentice. During your apprenticeship you will work as Box Office Staff, Assistant Stage Manager, Light & Sound Board Operator, and House Manager among other duties and responsibilities. Professional opportunities are also available for those who are interested.

A weekly stipend of $250 will be offered to help offset living expenses.
